Situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath peak and Kedarnath Dome; a subpeak of the main peak are the precious part of the Gangotri group of mountains the western Garhwal Himalayas. Out of which, Kedarnath peak lies south of the Gangotri glacier i.e the main ridge and Kedarnath dome lies on a spur projecting towards the glacier, two kilometres northwest of Kedarnath. Blessed with the height of 6,940 m, Kedarnath is considered to be the tallest peak on the south side of the Gangotri Glacier, whereas Kedarnath Dome being the third highest. Gaumukh; the source of the river Ganges, is one of the best tourist attraction that is situated only at a distance of 15 kilometers from Kedarnath peak.

Kedarnath peak is trekker’s first love, that provides plethora of adventure activities including snow skiing, rope ladder, cycling, tree climbing, paragliding, rappelling and of course trekking and peak climbing to experience the best of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. Hence, it is considered as one of the popular trek which is climbed by thousands of tourists every year. Both, Kedarnath peak and the kedarnath Dome have relatively easy routes on their northwest sides, in comparison to the east face of Kedarnath Dome, which is huge and gives a very challenging rock climb. As per the records, both the peaks were first climbed together in the year 1947, by a Swiss team led by André Roch.
